Uzbek interim leader wins presidency with 88.6% of vote

TASHKENT -- Uzbekistan's interim leader Shavkat Mirziyoyev has won a landslide victory to become the country's second-ever president following the death of long-reigning incumbent Islam Karimov, official results said December 5.

According to the Central Election Commission, Mirziyoyev scooped up 88.6% of the vote after a preliminary count.
