BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan has built additional checkpoints along its border to prevent terrorists from infiltrating the country, said Chairman of the State Border Service (GPS) Ularbek Sharsheyev, Kabar.kg reported.

Sharsheyev announced the measure on Tuesday (July 24), citing Afghanistan as the main threat.

He did not specify the number of new temporary checkpoints, but said that border guards arrested 12 individuals returning from war zones in Afghanistan and the Middle East in the first half of 2018.
