Kazakh forces break up gun-trafficking operation

NUR-SULTAN -- Kazakh Committee for National Security (KNB) personnel broke up a multi-city gun-trafficking operation, the KNB said in a statement on Thursday (July 25). The perpetrators included several crime rings that sold and bought weapons in Almaty, Shymkent and Kyzylorda.

The KNB seized eight AK-47's and two pistols and made arrests in Almaty and Shymkent on July 18 and July 19, it said.

Several of the suspects were members of extremist movements and had ties to organised crime, the KNB added.
